Monica case: Cook deposes

Bhopal, Feb 21 (UNI) A local court today recorded a witness' statement in a fake passports case wherein underworld don Abu Salem and his starlet-girlfriend Monica Bedi stand accused.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Raveendra Singh accepted defence Counsel P C Bedi's application urging conversion of witnesses into accused under Section 319 of the Criminal Procedure Code as the witnesses were part of the conspiracy.

Witnesses were cook Afaq, Uma Shankar Verma -- who signed a ration card -- Municipal Corporation Clerk Johra Bano, Aziz Fatma, Passports Officer Amar Singh, Passports Clerk Indu Nair, Head Constable Irfan Ahmad, Dinesh and the Parwania Police Station House Officer.

Cook Afaq alias Sherkhan confirmed that Monica and Salem had visited the city.

Public Prosecutor R K Motwani, Monica Bedi and to accused Kabir's counsel Rajneesh were present in court today. The hearing will continue tomorrow.

House adjourned briefly

Old man murdered by unidentified persons

Vijayawada, Feb 21 (UNI) A 55-year-old man was brutally murdered by some unidentified persons at Gollapudi, near here today. According to police the man, Ramagiri Krishna, employed as a watchman in a Cement Godown had come to the city 15 years back from Ramagundam. He was staying with his family members. The body was sent to the Government General Hospital for post mortem. The reason for the murder was being investigated. The involvement of his family members was not ruled out,.....

Arrest sought for involvement in suicide

Vijayawada, Feb 21 (UNI) Demanding the arrest of one person allegedly involved in the suicide of his former accomplice, the family members and villagers of the victim resorted to a dharna, carrying the mortal remains, in front of Penumuluru Police Station in Krishna district. According to police Venkateswara Rao and Nagul Meera were friends and used to commit thefts. They parted ways after a dispute and Rao used to threaten he would bring Meera to book.
