Mizo administration deletes Mithun sacrifice in Chapchar Kut

Aizwal, Feb 21 (UNI) In the face of stiff opposition from animal rights activists and religious scholars, the Mizoram administration has decided to delete Mithun sacrifice from Chapchar Kut, the biggest community festival in the state.

Official sources said here today that Chapchar Kut organising committee deliberated on the issue in a meeting yesterday and decided not to sacrifice Mithun in the festival, scheduled on March 9 and 10.

Biaksiama had raised their voice against the proposed Sechhun ceremony (spearing of Mithuns) in Chapchar Kut.

Sechhun goes against the provisions of Section 11 of The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, IPC and The Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972, they said.

Centre to implement bio-tech programme in NE

Aizawl, Feb 21 (UNI) With an aim to benefit the Schedule Castes and Schedule Tribes (SC/ST) and the rural population, the Ministry of Science and Technology has introduced a new bio-tech based programme in the NE states. State govt reviews progress in development work in tribal areas

Agartala, Feb 21 (UNI) Under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, the Tripura government has reviewed the progress of developmental work in the tribal areas. A meeting of the Advisory Committee of the Tribals was held yesterday.
