Indo-Pak pact on N risk reduction enters into force

New Delhi, Feb 21 (UNI) The India-Pakistan Agreement on reducing the risks of nuclear accidents entered into force today after both countries signed it following talks between their respective Foreign Ministers and the Fifth Joint Commission Meeting here.

The Agreement was signed by Mr K C Singh, Additional Secretary in the External Affairs Ministry, and Mr Tariq Osman Hyder, Additional Secretary (UN, EC) in the Pakistan Foreign Ministry.

External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee and his Pakistani counterpart Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri were also present.

''The Agreement enters into force with immediate effect,'' a Joint Press Release issued after talks between the two Foreign Ministers said.

The two countries had agreed to sign the Agreement during talks between their Foreign Secretaries here on November 14.

The two Foreign Ministers who met in Islamabad on January 13, had agreed that the Agreement would be signed when they meet again in New Delhi for the Fifth India-Pakistan Joint Commission Meeting (JCM).

Before the signing of the Agreement, Mr Mukherjee and Mr Kasuri held discussions on various aspects of bilateral relations and reviewed the Composite Dialogue Process (CDP) which has entered its fourth round.

New Delhi, Feb 21 (UNI) Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri today praised the doctors of Safdarjang hospital for ''taking very good care'' of those injured in the Samjhauta Express bomb explosions on February 18-19 as both India and Pakistan strongly condemned the incident in which 68 people have died so far. ''...our appreciation for the services of the doctors who are really taking very good care of patients,'' the Pakistan Foreign Minister said at a joint press conference along.....

CPI(M) condoles Errakulam tragedy

New Delhi, Feb 21 (UNI) The CPI(M) today expressed deep shock at the tragic boat accident in Ernakulam district of Kerala, claiming the lives of fifteen students and three teachers of the St Antony's Upper Primary School, Elavoor, when their boat capsized in the Periyar river. The Left party hoped the enquiry would establish how the accident took place. In a statement, the Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. Stop concessions to Industry if refuses quota: SC panel to Govt

New Delhi, Feb 21 (UNI) Industry has come in for a sharp attack by the National Commission for Scheduled Castes for its reluctance to give quota to SCs ''while extracting concessions from the government at the cost of public money.'' ''The government should force the private sector to extend reservation to SCs and STs and do it early,'' acting chairman of the Commission Fakirbhai Vaghela said here. The demand for benefits and privileges for these castes in the private sector was.....
