Guj man extinguishes 100 match sticks in mouth

Ahmedabad, Feb 21 (UNI) A 21-year-old youth hailing from Alarsa village of Gujarat attained a rare feat of extinguishing 100 match sticks in five minutes after putting them in his mouth.

Hardevsinh Mahida, an operator with Dahej port of Gujarat Alkalies Chemicals Ltd (GACL) in Anand district, was inspired by a TV programme, where a person extinguished 50 burning match sticks in five minutes by inserting it in his mouth.

Surprisingly when he tried it, he managed to extinguish 100 match sticks in five minutes after initial jolts.

''Initially I had problems and with my tongue getting singed I could not eat for two days. Yet I placed a wager with my friends and in order to win the bet I persevered. I soon found that I can extinguish 100 match sticks in five minutes. Now I am practicing for 200 match sticks in 10 minutes,'' Mahida said.

Recently he has contacted the organisers of 'Shabash India', a television programme based on rare achievements, to array his rare exploit and is expecting a positive call.

Fire in Junagadh district collector's office, guts files, property

Junagadh, Feb 21 (UNI) A major fire broke out in the office of the District Collector early today, damaging property and reducing several important files to ashes. According to the preliminary reports, the cause of fire is said to be because of a short circuit. However, no casualties were reported, official sources said. The four-storeyed office also housed the offices of the Deputy Collector, Mid-day meal department, employment section, district and taluka panchayats etc. Twelve fire tenders were pressed into service.....

All India Bank strike called off

Kolkata, Feb 21 (UNI) The proposed nationwide strike in all public sector and other banks on February 23, was called off today following an ''understanding'' between bankers and the bank unions. Bomb explodes at railway track in Jharkhand

Hazaribagh, Feb 21 (UNI) A bomb exploded on a railway track at Ranchi Road railway station minutes after a passenger train chugged past the platform in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh district today. The Gomo-Barwadih passenger train had a miraculous escape as the bomb detonated at 1400 hrs, just a few minutes after it left the platform, police said. The security personnel present on the spot immediately swung into action and recovered another live bomb from the track which was later handed over to.....
