Ford India unveils 1.4 litre petrol ZXi model

Chennai, Feb 21 (UNI) Strengthening its position in the growing mid-size automotive segment, Ford India today unveiled 1.4 litre petrol ZXi, a new feature-laden model to its award winning Fiesta line up.

Ford India (Marketing, Sales and Service) Vice-President Scott McCormack told a press conference here that the new model was designed for the Indian customers, specially for city driving.

"The fuel economy new model is designed and featured in a way to suit city driving and introduced in direct response to customer feedback," he said.

Eversince Fiesta was launched in 2005, it had grown from strength to strength and the new model would complement the Fiesta range of models with value added features, he said.

Priced at Rs 6,30,700, the new model boasts additional features like electric outer rear view mirrors, programmable key less entry and driver seat height adjust mechanism, he said.

Of the 42,000 vehicles sold in domestic market during 2006, which was a record sale, witnessing an overall growth of 87 per cent over last year, he said Fiesta constituted a major chunk in the sales.

With the launch of the new model, the sales would significantly grow in the current year.

With the boom in Indian economy, Ford would focus more on domestic market for its marketing in the coming years, he added.

The company had made significant changes and would not phase out Ford Ikon, he said replying to a question. The financial position was also good for Ford India, which was making profits for the last three years, Mr Scott added.
