Five killed, nine injured as Pvt bus falls in Chamera Dam

Chamba, Feb 21 (UNI) Five persons were killed and nine others injured when a private bus fell in Chamera Dam today.

The rescuers saved nine persons, who were injured. They have been sent to a local health care centre Barangal.

The ill-fated private bus was on its way from Chamba to Barangal carrying about 14 passangers. The rescue team of Chamera Dam was pressed into service immediately after the accident.

The Chamba DSP (HQ), Arvind Chaudary, said the injured have been admitted at Primary Health Centre at Barangal.

The bus was still to be taken out of the waters, he said.

We are not involved in Samjhauta blasts: LeT

Srinagar, Feb 21 (UNI) Pakistan-based militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) has denied its involvement in the Samjhauta Express blast in Haryana in which 68 people, most of them Pakistanis, died. Dr Abdullah Gaznavi, who identified himself as a spokesperson of the outfit, strongly condemned the blast in the Atari-bound train. Expressing grief and sorrow, he said it was a cowardly act. Pak nationals fail to identify bodies of kin

Panipat, Feb 21 (UNI) Frantic efforts were on to identify the victims of the Samjhauta Express blasts even as nine Pakistanis, who arrived here this morning failed to recognise their kin among the bodies lying at the Civil hospital here today. Only 18 of the bodies have been identified so far. Thirteen of these bodies are of Pakistanis while others are of Indians, officials here said. Kashmir highway closed, snow in Kashmir, Drass and Kargil

Srinagar, Feb 21 (UNI) The Kashmir valley remained cut off from the rest of the country today following closure of the 300-km-long Srinagar- Jammu national highway due to landslides and shooting of stones, triggered by heavy rains. The entire Kashmir valley, including Drass, Kargil and Zanaskar are under the grip of severe cold following fresh snowfall while the plains, including Srinagar, have witnessed rainfall since this morning resulting in considerable drop in temperature.
