Fire in Junagadh district collector's office, guts files, property

Junagadh, Feb 21 (UNI) A major fire broke out in the office of the District Collector early today, damaging property and reducing several important files to ashes.

According to the preliminary reports, the cause of fire is said to be because of a short circuit. However, no casualties were reported, official sources said.

The four-storeyed office also housed the offices of the Deputy Collector, Mid-day meal department, employment section, district and taluka panchayats etc.

Twelve fire tenders were pressed into service and it took over six hours to douse the fire.

District Collector Ashwini Kumar, IGP Mohan Kumar Jha, and other senior officials had rushed to the spot.

11 Pakistanis with Gaya links untraceable since train tragedy

Gaya, Feb 21 (UNI) A pall of gloom descended at Karimganj locality of Gaya town following '' no information'' about the fate of 11 members of a family settled in Pakistan who had boarded the Samjauta Express on February 18 on way to Atari. The Pakistani nationals including six children and two women recently came to India to visit their relatives. Ms Maimun Nissa's son Shabbir Ahmad, daughter-in-law, three grandsons and a granddaughter besides her son's father-in-law and some other.....

Police recover looted rifles from nabbed ultra

Hazaribagh, Feb 21 (UNI) Jharkhand police today recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition, besides cash from a dreaded CPI(Maoist) ultra, who was arrested yesterday along with six accomplices from Keredar area in Hazaribagh district. Of 14 rifles recovered from their possession, about eight had been looted from Giridih police station. Suprintendent of Police Praveen Singh said police also recovered a Czech pistol and 337 live cartridges from them. About Rs 8.90 lakh were also recovered besides ornaments worth Rs.....

Mizo bodies to verify bona fide Brus

Aizawl, Feb 21 (UNI) The Mizoram government has decided to undertake verification of former Bru (Reang) militants and refugees who left the state en masse in 1997 and took shelter in six camps of North Tripura. Official sources said here today that the home department held a meeting with major NGOs and student bodies in Mizoram have decided to verify whether they are bona fide residents of the state.
