Federation calls off fast

Puducherry, Feb 21 (UNI) The Federation of Village Panchayats Association here called off their proposed fast at Rajiv Gandhi Samadhi at Sriperumbudhur tomorrow.

Federation Deputy Convenor Mr Jaganathan, in a statement today, said the decision was taken at a meeting of the Federation here yesterday after accepting a request from Prof M Ramadass.

The meeting expressed hope that Chief Minister N Rangasamy would take the initiatives in the coming budget session of the Territorial Assembly to devolve powers to elected local body representatives.

Earlier, the Federation announced a fast protesting the delay in devolution of powers to elected local body representatives.

Following this, Prof Ramdass urged them to drop the plan as it would dent the image of the Union Territory.

K'taka Govt to launch new project to check rural migration

Bangalore, Feb 27 (UNI) The Karnataka Government will launch a new project, Town Municipality Councils Infrastructure Development Project, in July to check increased migration from rural areas.
