February 23 All India Bank Strike called off

Kolkata, Feb 21 (UNI) The proposed nationwide strike in all public sector and other banks on February 23, was called off today following an "understanding" between the bankers and the bank unions.

Announcing the decision to withdraw the strike, Convenor of United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), a conglomerate of all the seven major Bank Unions, P K Pattanaik thanked the management of Central Bank of India for sympathetically considering the fate of its 7,000 odd workmen and officers who had been chargesheeted for participating in a previous bank strike.

Moreover, the proposed indefinite strike in Central Bank branches across the country from tomorrow, demanding immediate withdrawal of chargesheet against is own employees, stood cancelled in the wake of the Bank management's favourable decision, Mr Pattnaik announced.

Incidentally, the proposed All India strike was to be the second in this year alone to press for several demands of bank employees on various issues.

Syschem India to pump in $12-15 mln for expansion

New Delhi, Feb 21 (UNI) Syschem India Ltd today said it will investment 12-15 million dollars over the next two years for its foray into mainstream pharma business. The company will launch its own Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and has lined up three new molecules from the leading therapeutic categories, which will be manufactured at its manufacturing facilities. The marketing of these APIs would be done for the leading pharma companies for which Syschem is already in talks with some.....

ADB to help South Asia manage hazardous waste

Singapore, Feb 21 (UNI) The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will help four South Asian countries including India to improve their management of hazardous waste with a grant of 4,00,000 dollars. Targeted at Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and India, the technical assistance (TA) project will help assess hazardous waste problems, draft policy rules to manage waste, and report on the potential for private sector involvement. Tatas partner with Changi for airport modernisation business

New Delhi, Feb 21 (UNI) The Tata group has entered the business of airport modernisation in partnership with Singapore-based Changi Airports International (CAI). The Tata-Changi venture will have 51:49 equity stake with no upside or downside limits on investments, said CAI's vice-president for India region Ng Tim Peng. ''We'll explore possibilities of greenfield as well as brownfield projects in the booming Indian aviation market,'' he told reporters on the sidelines of Inter Airport India seminar and exhibition which kicked off.....
