Engg student fatally run over by lorry

Chennai, Feb 21 (UNI) A 21-year-old final year engineering college student was fatally run over by a sand lorry at Krishna Nagar on the Tambaram-Mudichur Road near here today.

Police said M Gopinath returning home on his motorcycle after attending a computer class when the mishap occurred.

The lorry driver did not stop the vehicle until he was intercepted by the police with the help of public near suburban Velacherry. However, the driver jumped out of the vehicle and escaped.

The body was removed to the government hospital at Chrompet for post-mortem, police said.

Mysore, Feb 28 (UNI) Favourite Guided missile ridden by K P G Appu, won the Karnataka Race Horse Owners Association Cup. The main event of the races held here today. The winner is joint property of S Narredu, K R Digvijay Singh Shekhawat and T Ramakrishna and trained by S Narredu. Indore, Feb 22 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh today pipped Railway Sports Promotion Board (RPCB) by 63 runs in a Central Zone Ranji league one-dayer at the Emerald Ground here. After winning the toss, the railwaymen opted to field. Ravikant Shukla (54), Suresh Raina (39), Praveen Kumar (34), Ali Murtaza (30) and Parminder Singh (30) helped take the Uttar Pradesh score to 246/9 in the allotted 50 overs.
