Court records Zinta's evidence

Mumbai, Feb 21 (UNI) A local court today recorded the evidence of Bollywood star Preity Zinta in a defamation case, filed by her against city tabloid 'Mid-day' for publishing transcripts of a conversation between Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai in which Salman referred to his relationship with Zinta.

Advocate Sandeep Kapur, representing Zinta, said the local court, at Girgaon partly recorded her evidence and then adjourned the matter till March 22 for further recording her statement.

Ms Zinta had filed the criminal defamation suit, which was based on a transcript of a conversation reportedly between Salman and Aishwarya in which Salman referred to his relationship with Zinta. The transcript had appeared in Mid-Day's last July 15 edition.

The alleged conversation was claimed to be recorded by the Mumbai police.

However, according to the police they had sent the said tape to Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), Chandigarh, for examination.

The forensic laboratory reports showed that the tape was not authentic and that the voices of persons in the tape did not match those of Aishwarya and Salman.
