Cong, TDP bag one LB each, Independents hold key in Vizag

Hyderabad, Feb 21 (UNI) The opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Andhra Pradesh today received a shot in the arm, winning the Municipal Corporation elections in Rajahmundry and emerging as THE single largest party in Visakhapatnam, while the ruling Congress scraped through in Hindupur Municipality with the help of its ally CPI today.

In Visakhapatnam, 10 Independents hold the key as the TDP won 32 seats, while Congress was successful in 27 divisions, CPI(M) in two divisions and CPI in one division in the 72-member Municipal Corporation, a report from the Port city said.

In Hindupur, the Congress, which won 18 seats like the TDP, is in a position to form the local self-government with the support of its poll ally the CPI, which won two seats.

The TDP swept to power in Rajahmundry winning 29 seats in the 50-member Municipal Corporation, while the Congress was successful in 17 divisions and Independents (three Congress rebels and one TDP rebel) in four divisions, a report from Rajahmundry has said.

In Rajahmundry, TDP nominee, who tied with the Congress candidate 831-831, in the 50th division was declared winner by the toss of a coin.

Manipur goes to third and final phase of polling tomorrow

Imphal, Feb 21 (UNI) Stage is set for the third and final phase of polling in Manipur as more than 3.5 lakh voters, including nearly two lakh women, are expected to exercise their franchise to elect 12 Assembly members in three districts and a sub-division tomorrow. Massive security arrangements have been made to ensure incident free voting as poll personnel in many sensitive booths were being escorted by the policemen. Manipur has already witnessed two phased polling on February 8.....

Arunachal to release 3 per cent additional DA

Itanagar, Mar 9 (UNI) The Arunachal Pradesh government has decided to release additional three per cent Dearness Allowances(DA) and equal percentage of Dearness Relief(DR) to its employees and retired employees respectively. The decision to this effect was taken in a cabinet meeting here yesterday, held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Gegong Apang, state government spokesman, who is also Resource Department Minister Tako Dabi, told media persons here today.
