BJP welcomes UP assembly elections' schedule

New Delhi, Feb 21 (UNI) The BJP today welcomed the decision of the Election Commission to hold assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh in seven phases from April 7 to May 8.

BJP Spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad said the party was comfortably placed to face the polls and expected the people to repose their faith in its ability to give good governance to the country's biggest state, both in terms of population and geographical size.

About holding elections in seven phases, Mr Prasad said the Election Commission must have taken all factors into consideration before deciding the elections' schedule.

However, the BJP wanted deployment of central forces in every booth to prevent any misuse of authority by the state government, he added.

Assembly election for Uttarakhand's Bajpur constituency on March 25

Dehra Dun, Feb 21 (UNI) Election for Bajpur Assembly constituency in Uddhamsingh Nagar district of Uttarahand will be held on March 25. 55 to 60 per cent polling in Uttarakhand Assembly election

Dehra Dun, Feb 21 (UNI) Nearly 55 to 60 per cent out of an electorate of nearly 60,00,000 exercised their franchise in the Uttarakhand Assembly election for 69 seats today. A similar turnout was recorded for the Tehri Lok Sabha by poll today.
