Armed clash leaves three dead in south-eastern Bangladesh

Dhaka, Feb 21 (UNI) Three people were shot dead and 20 others injured in a fierce clash between rival groups over a disputed salt field in southeastern Cox's Bazar district of Bangladesh today.

Police said there had been a long conflict over the rights of 20 acres of salt field between the two groups at Moyadia in Pekua subdistrict.

The clash occurred when the rival groups went to take possession of the disputed salt field. They used guns and other weapons during the fight, leaving two people dead on the scene while another died on way to hospital.

At least 150 rounds of bullet were traded during the three-hour gunfight. Ten people, seriously injured with bullets, were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

Norway seeks renewed commitment from Lankan parties

Russia to respond to US missile defence in Europe without hysteria

Moscow, Feb 21 (UNI) Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov today declared Moscow will respond to the US plans to deploy missile defence system in Europe without any hysteria, saying it would not send the arms race spiraling anew. ''We will respond, of course, but without any hysteria. We can't afford being entangled in an arms race once again,'' Mr Lavrov said in an interview to the government-controlled daily Rossiiskaya Gazeta, published today.
