AP Govt to clear SC, ST backlog vacancies: Minister

Hyderabad, Feb 21 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Government will strive to clear the pending vacancies in the posts reserved for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the Health and Medical department.

Replying to Ch Ramakrishna Reddy (Congress), Health Minister K Rosaiah said notifications had been issued from time to time to fill up backlog vacancies and 187 SC and 400 ST candidtates in various categories were recruited so far.

As many as 906 doctors were recruited in 2005 and 946 in 2006, he informed, adding that the government was actively considering to fill up another 451 posts during 2007.

Replying to another question from Mr Akbaruddin Owaisi and other AIMIM members, Mr Rosaiah said no non-Urdu knowing candidates were admitted to the Bachelor of Unani Medicine (Post-Graduate) course.

Counselling for admissions to the course during 2006-07 was postponed following 'disturbances' and the same had not been recommended even after the High Court admitted many petitions on the issue.

Puducherry, Feb 21 (UNI) The Federation of Village Panchayats Association here called off their proposed fast at Rajiv Gandhi Samadhi at Sriperumbudhur tomorrow.
