Absconding ACP surrenders, sent to 4-day CBI custody

New Delhi, Feb 21 (UNI) Absconding Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of the Crime Branch Rakesh Bansal, involved in a bribery case, today surrendered before the Patiala House Courts here.

The ACP was sent to four-day CBI custody by the court, according to the CBI.

Rakesh Kumar Bansal, an Assistant Commissioner with the Crime Branch was charged under 'bribery' for accepting Rs 1.5 lakh bribe, along with Sub-Inspector Jagdish Kumar from a businessman by the CBI on January 31.

While Sub-Inspector Jagdish Kumar was arrested in the CBI 'trap', ACP R K Bansal had been absconding ever since.

Both the accused were posted with the Anti-Extortion and Robbery Cell of the Crime Branch here.

Rs 2.25 lakh cash, property papers of three flats in Gurgaon, Dwarka and Rohini, jewellery worth five lakhs and 40 bottles of expensive whisky were recovered during raids from the Kingsway Camp residence of ACP Bansal.

Even as two shops -- in Rajinder Nagar amd Mukherjee Nagar -- were found in his wife's name, four lockers were found in the name of the ACP.

The CBI registered a case against the two after a local businessman alleged that the ACP and SI were harrassing him on the basis of a complaint made by one of his business associates and demanding Rs 15 lakh as bribe.

Varma gets court notice for 'Nishabd'

New Delhi, Feb 21 (UNI) Delhi High Court today issued notice to Bollywood director Ram Gopal Varma on a petition filed by Kanungo Media Pvt Ltd seeking permanent injunction on release of Amitabh Bachchan-starred film 'Nishabd'. After hearing preliminary arguments, Justice A K Sikri asked Varma, RGV Film Factory, Adlabs Films Ltd and Super Cassettees Ltd to file their replies to the allegations in the petition by March 23. Fares may go up for flights during peak hours

New Delhi, Mar 5 (UNI) Fares for flights during peak hours at Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore may go up marginally in coming weeks as the civil aviation ministry is considering a proposal to double airport charges for airlines. There is a serious mis-match between the demand and supply at these airports which calls for rationalisation, said civil aviation secretary Ashok Chawla. ''These charges need to be calibrated. Delhi Police hand over CFSL report to Manchanda's family

New Delhi, Feb 21 (UNI) Following the Delhi High Court directive, the Delhi police today handed over a copy of CFSL (Central Forensic and Science Laboratory) report to the family of its suspended inspector Devendra Manchanda, who was found dead at Barakhamba road on October 13 last year. Prashant, the son of the deceased, had moved the High Court on February 19 for the CFSL report, which ruled out 'poisoning' as the cause of the inspector's death. ''The report lends.....
