Two railway staffers suspended for improper documentation

New Delhi, Feb 20 (UNI) Two staffers of the Railways have been suspended for improper documentation of the records of the passengers on the Samjhauta Express which caught fire yesterday at Diwana in Haryana.

Two booking clerks of the railways were suspended last night for not maintaining proper records of the passengers travelling on the 'Friendship Train', a spokesperson of the Northern Railway said.

At the same time, he clarified that it was not a case of security lapse.

''The suspension of the clerks is part of a regular departmental action. It is not a security lapse,''the spokesperson said.

As many as 67 people died and several others were injured after blasts occurred on the Samjhauta Express going from Delhi to Lahore yesterday morning, at Diwana in Panipat.

Steel tycoon Mittal acquires 49 per cent in HPCL

New Delhi, Feb 20 (UNI) Steel tycoon Laxmi Mittal today marked his entry into the oil refining business by snapping up 49 per cent stake in Guru Gobind Singh Refineries being constructed in Punjab by state-run Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL). This move is expected to revive the Rs 16,000 crore refinery-cum -petrochemicals project coming up at Bhatinda in Punjab. Mr Mittal is expected to invest Rs 3,000 crore in the venture, sources say. Mukesh Ambani to meet Chevron Chief on Friday for joint ventures

New Delhi, Feb 20 (UNI) Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) Chairman Mukesh Ambani will meet chief of US oil major Chevron David O'Reilly Friday and chalk plans to jointly work in energy exploration from deep seas and producing bio-fuels for running automobiles. The US-based company is also expected to raise its stake to 29 per cent in Reliance Petroleum Ltd, a Reliance Industries subsidiary that is setting up a 5,80,000 barrels a day export refinery at Jamnagar adjacent to the parent company's.....

Eleven identified including seven Pakistanis

New Delhi, Feb 20 (UNI) Eleven of the 68 killed in the Samjhauta Express blasts have been identified so far including seven Pakistani nationals and two RPF personnel. Also among those identified is Yasmeen Akhtar, a resident of Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, and Shekina Begum from Salempur in Delhi, a Northern Railway release said.
