Two killed, 6 injured in road accident

Cuddalore, Feb 20 (UNI) Two persons were killed and six injured, one of them seriously when the Tata Sumo in which they were travelling rammed in to paddy laden lorry at Narikkuravar colony near Vadalur today.

According to police, eight persons boarded the vehicle carrying newspapers which was returning here at Melankuzhi near Kattumannarkoil for taking part in a funeral.

When the vehicle neared Narikkuravar colony, it dashed against the lorry killing two persons-- Kamalakannan (40) and Velmurugan (31)-- on the spot.

The injured were admitted to the Cuddalore Government hospital where the condition of 30-year-old Chandra was stated to be critical.

Mathew Sankrathil, Dr Sreedhara Kurup to receive SNSS awards

Kottayam, Feb 20 (UNI) Malayala Manorama Assistant Editor Mathew Sankrathil and C V N Kalari Treatment Centre Director Dr G Sreedhara Kurup have been selected for the Sree Narayana Samskarika Samithy (SNSS) awards. The awards were introduced in memory of journalist and social activist M Viswambharan and Dr K N Sudhakaran of the health service respectively. The award comprising a purse of Rs 10,001, a citation and memento, would be presented to them by opposition leader Oommen Chandy at a function.....

New coffee mfg equipment marketing company launched

Bangalore, Feb 22 (UNI) A new company, Kappi Machines (India) Private Limited, was today opened for marketing coffee manufacturing equipment. Coimbatore's Eltex Group, Mahlkonig of Germany and Italy's C M A were the three partners in the new outfit, with each of them having 33.3 per cent stake. They would bring together expertise in marketing and servicing of exclusive coffee making equipment, including grinders and espresso machines. Announcing this to newspersons here, Eltex Group Managing Director Suresh Jagannathan said.....

No trust motion against speaker rejected

Bangalore, Feb 20 (UNI) Deputy Speaker N G Gopalkrishna today rejected the no trust motion moved by oppposition Congress against the Speaker Krishna in the Assembly today. When the house met for the day Deputy Speaker called Mr Dharam Singh, who moved the motion amid the dharna by the opposition. The Deputy Speaker rejected the motion following the failure of Mr Dharam Singh to press for it. Several reports were placed by ministers and legislators amid noisy scenes from the well.....
