Two CRPF personnel killed in militant attack on Kashmir highway

Srinagar, Feb 20 (UNI) Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) pesonnel were killed in a militant attack at Sangam on the Srinagar- Jammu national highway this afternoon, official sources said.

They said militants fired upon a Road Opening Party (ROP) of 155 Batallion of CRPF at main market of Sangam, about 42 km from here, on the highway in south Kashmir district of Pulwama.

The security personnel were critically wounded in the attack. The injured were rushed to hospital where they were declared brought dead.

The area was immediately cordoned off and traffic on the highway was stopped. Further details are awaited.

Raipur, Feb 20 (UNI) Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha today strongly condemned the ghastly killing of passengers of the Samjhauta Express, describing it as an act of cowardice. As soon as the house assembled, Speaker Prem Prakash Pandey made a reference about Sunday night's blast in Samjhauta Express near Panipat in Haryana in which 66 people were killed and many others injured. ''We strongly condemn terrorism. It's an act of cowardice to kill innocent people. It is a crime against humanity'', he said.....

Two teachers killed in road accident

Jaunpur, Feb 20 (UNI) Two teachers were killed when their motorcycle collided head-on with a jeep here today. Police said the jeep, coming to Jaunpur, hit the bike near Union Bank in Line Bazar area, killing one Baijnath Yadav (48) on the spot. Another rider Sajjan Kumar Yadav succumbed in the hospital. Both the deceased were residents of Jamalpur village and were on their way to Madiaon area. UNI.....

Panipat, Feb 20 (UNI) As many as 16 of the 66 bodies of the victims of the Samjhauta Express blasts lying at the Civil hospital here have been identified so far while DNA samples have been taken of the remaining bodies. Twelve of the identified bodies are of Pakistanis while others are of Indians. Eleven of the identified bodies have been handed over to their relatives, officials said here today. Srinagar, Feb 20 (UNI) Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) pesonnel were among three people killed and while one was injured during the ouernight recovery of some arms and ammunition in the Kashmir by the valley by the security forces. An official spokesman said a Road Opening Party (ROP) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was fired upon by militants on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway at Sangam, about 42 km from here in south Kashmir district of Anantnag this afternoon......
