Students go on strike: demand revocation of dismissal order

Puducherry, Feb 20 (UNI) College students in Puducherry today absented themselves from classes and took out a procession to demand Ambedkar Law College authorities revoke the order for dismissal of five students.

The fourth year students of the law college had allegedly locked up a first year girl student in a class room, on Valentine's Day.

They misbehaved with her and pressurise her to love one of them.

Hearing the cries of the girl, the watchman of the college opened the room and rescued her. Later, she reported the matter to the college Principal and Kalapet police.

Police have registered cases under six sections of IPC.

The Principal had reportedly taken initiatives to dismiss the five students from the college, following which the students resorted to the agitation.

Western Australian Premier visits ICRISAT

Hyderabad, Feb 20 (UNI) Western Australia Province Premier Alan J Carpenter today visited the premier International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) here. The visit by Western Australian Premier would further strengthen the collaboration on chickpea research, an ICRISAT release said. Come out with clear stand on Cauvery verdict, Cong tells Govt

Semiconductor policy receives positive response from ISA

Bangalore, Feb 22 (UNI) The India Semiconductor Association (ISA) termed the Semiconductor Policy, announced today by the Centre, as an extremely positive one that will provide further impetus to the growth of the sector. Reacting to the policy approved by the Union Cabinet, ISA President Poornima Shenoy said the policy had a special incentive package to attract investments for setting up semiconductor fabrication and other micro and nano technology manufacturing industries.
