Sonia meets injured at Safdarjung Hospital

New Delhi, Feb 20 (UNI) UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi today visited the Safdarjung Hospital and met the eleven people injured in yesterday's Samjhauta Express blasts.

Ms Gandhi met all the eleven patients undergoing treatment at the burns ward of the Hospital and spoke to the doctor about the treatment being given to them, hospital sources said.

''She was very concerned about the health of the injured, particulary children including a one-year old girl and a nine-year old boy,'' sources added.

The Congress President, however, declined to speak to the mediapersons waiting outside the burns ward of the hospital.

The toll in the blasts on the Delhi-Attari Samjhauta Express near Panipat in Haryana rose to 68 with the death of a 15-year-old Pakistani boy in the hospital this morning.

Many dignitaries, including Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Railways Minister Lalu Prasad and Pakistan High Commissioner to India Shahid Malik, yesterday visited the 12 injured who were admitted to the safdarjung Hospital.

Committee recommends National Road Safety and Management Board

Commission against SC benefits to Dalit Muslims, Christians

New Delhi, Feb 20 (UNI) The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (SCs) has conveyed to the Centre its firm opposition to the demand for giving benefits available to these castes to Dalit converts to Islam and Christianity. It has also rejected the controversial proposal that children born to an SC woman and non-SC male should be given the benefits available to the mother's caste. Steel tycoon Mittal acquires 49 per cent in HPCL

New Delhi, Feb 20 (UNI) Steel tycoon Laxmi Mittal today marked his entry into the oil refining business by snapping up 49 per cent stake in Guru Gobind Singh Refineries being constructed in Punjab by state-run Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL). This move is expected to revive the Rs 16,000 crore refinery-cum -petrochemicals project coming up at Bhatinda in Punjab. Mr Mittal is expected to invest Rs 3,000 crore in the venture, sources say.
