Saddam paid tributes in MP Assembly

Bhopal, Feb 20 (UNI) Communist Party of India (Marxist) today paid glowing tributes to deposed Iraqi President Saddam Hussain in the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly.

While paying tributes to former Chief Minister S C Shukla and others in the Assembly, CPI-M member Ramlakhan Sharma recalled the ''hanging of Mr Saddam Hussain at the behest of the United States in its bid to have control over the oil deposits in Iraq'' and paid glowing tributes to the former President.

Mr Sharma and Dr Sunilam (Samajwadi Party) also paid tributes to those passengers of the Samjhouta Express, who perished in the explosions yesterday. Majority of the blast victims were Pakistani citizens returning to their country.

The Assembly adjourned its sitting till tomorrow as a mark of respect to the departed.

Congress walkout over 'fake' naxalite surrender

Raipur, Feb 20 (UNI) Opposition Congress today staged a walkout in the Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha, demanding a probe by a legislators' committee into the surrender of 79 'naxalites', alleging that the event was stage-managed by forcing political workers and farmers to surrender as Maoists. Chhattisgarh assembly pays tributes to train blast victims

Raipur, Feb 20 (UNI) Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha today strongly condemned the ghastly killing of passengers of Samjhauta Express, describing it as an act of cowardice. As soon as the house assembled, Speaker Prem Prakash Pandey made a reference about Sunday night's blast in Samjhauta Express near Panipat in Haryana in which 66 people were killed and many others maimed. ''We strongly condemn terrorism. It's an act of cowardice to kill innocent people. It is a crime against humanity'', he said and.....

Mumbai ATS team in Panipat to 'study' nature of blasts

Mumbai, Feb 20 (UNI) An Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) team of the Mumbai police has left for Diwand near Panipat to study the nature and modus operandi of the terror strike on the Samjhauta Express. Talking to UNI, ATS chief K Raghuvanshi said here today that a team, comprising around four members, has been sent to the blast site to study the nature of the blast. ''We have sent a team just to review the situation and to learn.....
