Rapist awarded capital punishment

Muzaffarnagar, Feb 20 (UNI) A local court has sentenced to death a person accused in the rape and murder of a 10-year-old girl in this district of Uttar Pradesh.

According to the prosecution, in 2005, Bablu (30) had garrotted Ravita (10) after raping her in Shafipur village under Bhudhana police station area.

On the basis of testimony and substantial evidence, Upper District Judge Manohar Kumar last evening pronounced capital punishment on the accused.

On October 30, 2003, Bablu was sentenced to life by a local court in the murder case.

Later, the accused appealed in the High Court and was out on bail.

Bengal Govt seeks legal opinion on HC order

Kolkata, Mar 5(UNI) The West Bengal Government was taking legal opinions on the Calcutta High Court verdict that sentenced three senior officials including Director General of Police Anup Bhushan Vora to imprisonment for contempt of court.
