Police maintaining vigil on naxal movement across border

Kancheepuram, Feb 20 (UNI) Kancheepuram Deputy Inspector General(DIG) of police Shakeel Akhtar today said police would keep a close watch on any possible infiltration of naxalites from neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

Announcing this at a press conference here, he said this was being done as part of the efforts by the police to make Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur as ''illicit liquor free'' districts.

Mr Akhtar, who is the new DIG said the police would ascertain whether there was movement of naxals across the border at Pennalurpettai, Kanakammachathiram and Tirutani in the Arambakkam, Pathirivedu and Oothukottai police station limits.

He said one police constable has been appointed in each of these police station limits to maintain a strict vigil in these police station limits.

K'taka Council adjourned ahead of schedule

One injured, 15 houses damaged in cyclinder explosion

Chennai, Feb 20 (UNI) One person was seriously injured and 15 houses badly damaged when an LPG cylinder exploded at a house in a three-storied building at Jaferkhanpet in the city early today. According to police, the incident took place when Senthil Kumar, driver of a private taxi firm, forgot to switch off the gas cylinder in the kitchen last night.
