Patil lays foundation stone of greenfield airport

Itanagar, Feb 20 (UNI) Union Home Minister Shivraj V Patil today laid the foundation stone of Greenfield airport at Karsingsa near here.

'' Development of air connectivity in this land-locked state has begun and days are not far away when people could avail air services to various destinations,'' Mr Patil told reporters.

Assuring all possible help from the Centre in development of existing and new airfields in Arunachal Pradesh, Mr Patil directed Chief Minister Gegong Apang to identify the potential sites for airports in the state.

Arunachal needs more airfields so as to provide easier transport facilities, he commented and urged upon the Airport Authority of India (AAI) officials to ensure timely completion of the project.

Mr Patil said the Congress led UPA government at the Centre was committed in realising the dreams of former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi and turning them into reality.

Officers to remain alert for natural calamities: Nitish

Patna, Feb 20 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today asked the officers in his government to remain prepared for situations arising out of natural calamities. Addressing a workshop of sub divisional officers (SDO) here, Mr Kumar said damage from such calamities could be minimised with better training of natural disaster management. Motion of thanks for Governor's address passed amidst dharna by Cong

Bangalore, Feb 20 (UNI) Karnataka Legislative Assembly today passed motion of thanks to the Governor's joint address on January 25 amidst dharna by opposition Congress in the well of the House. Mr Vishveshwar Kageri (BJP) proposed the motion and it was seconded by Mr Rajanna (JD-S). The motion was passed amidst slogan shouting by Congress members against the government and demanding holding election to fill the Legislative Council Chairman post lying vacant since last nine months. Seminar on reforming education begins tomorrow

Agartala, Feb 20 (UNI) A three-day seminar on 'Reforming Education in North-East India', will be held at the Tripura University near here from tomorrow. Eminent academicians from different parts of the country including Delhi, Kolkata, and the North-Eastern states as well as Vice-Chancellors of different universities are expected to be present in the seminar.
