Orissa vigilance detects Rs.15 crore tax evasion

Bhubaneswar, Feb 20 (UNI) The Orissa vigilance department has detected tax evasion to the tune of Rs.15.25 crore during raids in various business premises in the state in January.

Vigilance sources said the sleuths conducted raids to different business houses in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Sambalpur, and Balasore divisions and detected tax evasion of sales tax to the tune of Rs.15.25 crore.

Besides, the State vigilance also realised Rs.44.16 lakh as casual tax on the spot. This apart the vigilance officers alongwith forest officials had detected 15 forest offence cases and seized timber and saw mill accessories valued at over Rs.6 lakh in Ganjam, Sundergarh, Balasore and Mayurbhanj Districts during the month.

Villagers block traffic on Kumbakkonam-Chennai highway

Cuddalore, Feb 20 (UNI) Villagers of Pannuratti in this district today blocked traffic on Kumbakkonam-Chennai highway for four hours protesting against the police allegedly arresting an innocent person in connection with a woman's murder here. They said Sekhar (32) had been arrested and lodged in Kannadakavadi police station. This morning, he was found missing. Training for police in Kancheepuram District

Kancheepuram, Feb 20 (UNI) Kancheepuram DIG Shakeel Akhtar said rigorous training had been given to police in physical fitness as well as in maintaining public relations in the district. In all villages police-friendly committees would be established. More people would be enrolled in the committee, who would assist the police, including traffic regulations. Mr Shakeel said police would ensure that in accident insurance, the department would ensure that a copy of documents, FIR, insurance copy and post-mortem report would reach.....
