Officers to remain alert for natural calamities: Nitish

Patna, Feb 20 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today asked the officers in his government to remain prepared for situations arising out of natural calamities.

Addressing a workshop of sub divisional officers (SDO) here, Mr Kumar said damage from such calamities could be minimised with better training of natural disaster management.

He said the state government arrange for a training, where the officers and other employees could learn to meet any eventuality during natural calamities.

''Awareness campaign will be launched to create consciousness on natural calamities among the people, '' he added.

Mr Kumar also directed the officers to maintain impartiality during the execution of various development and welfare schemes.

'' SDOs should accord priority to land reforms, revenue, law and order situation besides other routine responsibilities, '' he added.

Mr Kumar also directed the administrative officers to hold 'Janta Darbar' at local levels so that grievances of the common man is addressed properly.

NE states seek trade point at Pangasu Pass in Mizoram

Lifer to three for killing youth

Madikeri, Karnataka, Feb 20 (UNI) A lower court here has awarded life sentence to three persons, including a woman, for murdering a youth in 2002. The district and sessions court awarded the lifer and slapped a fine of Rs 2,000 on each of them. State govt adopts ambitious scheme for safe drinking water

Agartala, Feb 20 (UNI) The Tripura Government has taken up measures to provide safe drinking water to all the rural areas by 2010, an official release today said.
