No trust motion against speaker rejected

Bangalore, Feb 20 (UNI) Deputy Speaker N G Gopalkrishna today rejected the no trust motion moved by oppposition Congress against the Speaker Krishna in the Assembly today.

When the house met for the day Deputy Speaker called Mr Dharam Singh, who moved the motion amid the dharna by the opposition.

The Deputy Speaker rejected the motion following the failure of Mr Dharam Singh to press for it.

Several reports were placed by ministers and legislators amid noisy scenes from the well of the House.

Congress was on dharna for the fifth day demanding election to the post of Chairman of the Legislative Council.

Law Minister M P Prakash appealed to the Congress not to press for such a motion as there was no instance in the history of House in the past 50 years.

But the Congress maintained that the House was not in order. But Mr Gopalkrishna said the House was in order and asked him to place the motion. Mr Dharam failed to move the motion.

Motion of thanks for Gov's address passed amid dharna

Bangalore, Feb 20 (UNI) Karnataka Legislative Assembly today passed a motion of thanks to the Governor's joint address on January 25 amid dharna by the opposition Congress in the well of the House. Golden-Rock to refurbish MG locomotives for use in Myanmar

Tiruchirapalli, Feb 20 (UNI) The Central Railway Workshop at Golden-Rock (GOC) here has bagged orders to refurbish the old Meter Gauge (MG) locomotives for use in Myanmar railways. Talking to reporters here, Southern Railway (SR) General Manager Thomas Varghese said the GOC had modified 93 locomotives and exported them through RITES to other third world countries. With more than 65 per cent of the tracks being converted into Broad Gauge (BG), the SR had surplus number of used MG locomotives......

Western Australian Premier visits ICRISAT

Hyderabad, Feb 20 (UNI) Western Australia Province Premier Alan J Carpenter today visited the premier International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) here. The visit by Western Australian Premier would further strengthen the collaboration on chickpea research, an ICRISAT release said. Mr Carpenter evaluated the progress ICRISAT had made on chickpea improvement project in collaboration with a consortium from Western Australia mainly the Department of Agriculture and Food, Western Australia (DAFWA), Centre for Legumes in Mediterranean Agriculture.....
