Night temperatures dip in North West region

Chandigarh, Feb 20 (UNI) Night temperatures again dipped in north-west India today with Adampur in Punjab registering 4.4 degrees Celsius, the lowest temperature recorded in the plains.

The minimum temperature hovered one degree to two degrees celsius below normal as many areas in the region remained shrouded in fog.

The fog reduced visibility to 50 metres at Palam in Delhi and upto 400 metres at Sarsawa, 500 metres at Adampur and 800 metres at Suratgarh and Udhampur.

Cold conditions prevailed in Punjab as the mercury again fell.

Amritsar and Patiala also recorded a fall in the mercury, respectively showing 5.0 degrees, two degrees below normal, and 8.6 degrees, one degree down. However, the mercury rose at Ludhiana recording 8.6 degrees celsius.

The minimum temperaturea also dropped at various places in Haryana, including Ambala and Karnal respectively recording 8.7 degrees and 8.4 degrees, two degrees below normal. The minimum temperature slightly dropped at Hisar registering 10.6 degrees which was still two degrees above normal.

The night tempratures rose at some places in Himachal Pradesh.

However, people continued to groan under biting cold wave in the tribal belt where the mercury hovered below the freezing point. The minimum hovered at minus 4.5 degrees celsius at Kalpa in Kinnaur district.

The temperature also increased at Shimla recording 2.5 degrees, one degree below normal while the minimum remained static at 2.5 degrees at Bhuntar in Kullu district. Sundernagar in Mandi district showed 4.1 degrees.

The night temperature fell in Chandigarh and its adjoining areas with the city recording 11.4 degrees, one degree below normal as against 12.2 degrees recorded yesterday.

The Weather Office has predcited light to moderate rain or snow at few places in Himachal Pradesh and light to moderate rain or thundershowers at isolated places in Punjab during the next 24 hours. The weather will be mainly sunny with mist or fog occuring during night and morning in Haryana.

3 Security personnel among 5 killed, three injured in J

Srinagar, Feb 20 (UNI) Three security personnel were among five people killed and three others, inncluding two soldiers were injured in the Jammu and Kashmir overnight. Haryana police team leaves for Delhi to probe train blasts

Chandigarh, Feb 20 (UNI) A special team of the Haryana police has left for Delhi to join the investigations into the conspiracy behind the twin blasts in the Samjhauta Express yesterday. 13 Burmese nationals nabbed near IB in Hiranagar

Jammu, Feb 20 (UNI) Border Security Forces (BSF) today apprehended six Bangladeshi nationals while they were trying to cross the border to enter into Pakistan at Pargwal, 40 kms away, from Akhnoor tehsil in Jammu district, official sources said. BSF spokesperson told UNI that BSF jawans obsereved a group of Bangaladeshi nationals heading towards the IB in order to exfiltrate to other side of border from Porgwal.
