LC polls: Venkaiah to file papers on Feb 22

Vijayawada, Feb 20 (UNI) Senior Congress leader Ilapuram Venkaiah will file his nomination on February 22, for the elections to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council (MLC).

Announcing this at a newsconference here this evening, city Congress president Pyala Sominaidu said Mr Venkaiah would file his nomination at the Machilipatnam Collectorate.

Mr Venkaiah, who is also the co-chairman of the Other Backward Classes (OBC) Department of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee, will contest the Council polls from the Local Authorities Constituency (LAC) of this district. Elections to the MLC are due on March 17.

He had contested the 1999 assembly elections from the Vijayawada East constituency and lost to BJP's Kota Srinivasa Rao by a narrow margin. He was denied a party ticket in the 2004 assembly elections.
