K'taka Cabinet to seek Governor's intervention in Assembly impasse

Bangalore, Feb 20 (UNI) The emergency Cabinet meeting today decided to brief the Karnataka Governor T N Chaturvedi on the Opposition Congress members blocking the Legislative Assembly proceedings, demanding immediate election to the post of Chairman of the Legislative Council, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said today.

Emerging out of the meeting held here this evening, he told reporters that he and several Ministers would meet the Governor and detail him about the 'attack' on the Presiding Officer.

The Congress had virtually prevented the presiding officer from conducting the Assembly earlier in the day.

Mr Kumaraswamy said the Congress had no issue to fight and had been disturbing the session for the last eight to ten days, harping on a non-issue.

Stating that the Congress had no commitment to take up people's issues in the House, he said this was the first instance in the country of taking up the issues of Upper House in the Lower House.

The Congress had been staging a dharna for the last five days, demanding immediate election to the post of Chairman of Legislative Council. The issue had earlier rocked the Council, culminating in the en masse suspension of the Congress members for the rest of the session.
