Kerala plan outlay pegged at Rs 6,950 cr

New Delhi, Feb 20 (UNI)The annual plan of Kerala for 2007-08 has been fixed at Rs 6,950 crore, including additional Central assistance of Rs 60 crore for projects of specialimportance to the state.

The plan size was finalised at a meeting bedtmeen Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan here today.

Mr Achuthanandan told mediapersons later that the Centre had sought Rs 250 crore as one-time central assistance, but the Planning Commission had sanctioned only Rs 60 crore.

He said Agriculture, traditional industries, Biotechnology, Tourism and Industries have been given major thrust in the 2007-08 plan.

Mr Achuthanandan said the outlay of Rs 6,950 crore was RS 740 crore more than that for 2006-07.

Mr Ahuluwalia said the Commission had started taking a review of the performance of major Centrally sponsored schemes and invited comments of the State Government on problems being faced in their implementation.

He asked the state to encourage public private partnership in development of infrastructure as it would entitle them assistance from viability gap fund.

Government to release 3,65,000 tonnes of wheat to states

New Delhi, Feb 20 (UNI) In an effort to check the rise in open market prices, the Government today decided to release a total of 3,65,000 tonnes of wheat to states for sale under the Open Market Sale Scheme (Domestic) during this month and March. The wheat will be released by the FCI to the state governments at the price of Rs 986.06 per quintal for distribution to consumers through State Level Institutions/Corporations or Agencies whose work shall be directly supervised.....

Kerala to acquire land for Techno City: CM

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 5 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan told the Assembly today the government was taking steps to acquire 507 acre of land at Pallipuram in the district for setting up of a Techno City here. For expediting the acquisition process, the project had been included in the fast track scheme, he said in a written reply. Mr Achuthanandan said the master plan for the project was being prepared and once commissioned, Techno City would provide direct employment.....

UGC sanctions Rs 30.50 lakh to RSVP

Tirupati, Mar 5 (UNI) The University Grants Commission (UGC) has sanctioned Rs 30.50 lakh and two project fellowships to the Department of Sahitya of Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha (RSVP) under its Special Assistance Programme (SAP). RSVP Vice-Chancellor Hare Krishna Satapathy today said the Sahitya department was selected for SAP for a period of five years with effect from April one, 2007 to March 31, 2012. The UGC had already released an amount of Rs 11 lakh as its first installment, he said.....
