JACC withdraws proposed road blockade

Shillong, Feb 20 (UNI) The Joint Action Coordination Committee (JACC) today called off their proposed indefinite night road blockade in Meghalaya from tomorrow.

Previously, the JACC had called the strike to protest the high rate of High Security Registration Plates (HSRP).

The JACC delegation, led by its chairman A Shanpru, urged Transport Minister Manirul Islam Sarkar to reduce the rate of HSRP.

The JACC decided to withdraw the strike following an assurance from the government in this regard.

Mr Sarkar told mediapersons here that the government would review the whole contract within a period of 15 days. The whole issue would be reviewed taking all legal aspects into consideration, he added.

The contract for the issuing HSRP in the state was awarded to a company for a period of 15 years.

City experienced pleasant weather

Kolkata, Feb 20 (UNI) The city experienced pleasant weather as the minimum temperature hovered around 15.3 degrees Celsius today. However, the maximum temperature rose by few notches and was recorded at 28.8 degrees. MET office forecast a clear sky with a minimum temperature of around 16 degrees. Humidity remained high throughout the day. The maximum humidity was recorded at 87 per cent. No rainfall was recorded, sources added. UNI.....

IOC, HMT join hands to market Servo oil for HMT Tractor

Bangalore, Mar 16 (UNI) Public sector units Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOC) and HMT Limited today joined hands for marketing a range of co-branded Servo Genuine Oils for HMT tractors. An agreement to this effect was signed here by IOC Executive Director (Lubes) Amitava Chatterjee and HMT Executive Director (Tractors) Prakash Sharan. Under the agreement, these oils would be made available through the extensive sales and service network of HMT and the dealer network of IOC, besides the bazaar trade, thus.....

Patil lays foundation stone of greenfield airport

Itanagar, Feb 20 (UNI) Union Home Minister Shivraj V Patil today laid the foundation stone of Greenfield airport at Karsingsa near here. '' Development of air connectivity in this land-locked state has begun and days are not far away when people could avail air services to various destinations,'' Mr Patil told reporters. Assuring all possible help from the Centre in development of existing and new airfields in Arunachal Pradesh, Mr Patil directed Chief Minister Gegong Apang to identify the potential sites.....
