Indian worker's death sparks protest in Dubai

Dubai, Feb 20 (UNI) With an Indian worker's death sparking protest against living conditions here, Indian consulate has called for the intervention of labour officials into the matter.

The 23-year-old Indian worker died of meningitis on Saturday while 24 others in the Jebel Ali camp were reported to be suffering from chicken pox, consulate officials said.

The company assured the consulate that it would provide round- the-clock monitoring and medical facilities to all the ill workers, a statement said.

Furious workers alleged the poor living conditions were responsible for the spread of diseases.

The consulate has also taken up the issue of non-payment of wages for as long as six months by two other companies.

Parliament directs Nepal govt to take action against King

Kathmandu, Feb 21 (UNI) Amid countrywide protest and condemnation against King Gyanendra for his controversial statement, Nepal's Parliament urged the government to immediately take action against the King and declare Nepal a republic state. MP Budget anti-poor, anti-farmer: Oppn Leader

Bhopal, Mar 13 (UNI) Leader of Opposition in Madhya Pradesh Assembly Jamuna Devi today said the state budget 2007-08 was ''anti-poor and anti-farmer'' and would lead to price rise in the state. Participating in the general debate on the budget, Ms Devi said raising tax on jaggery, hosiery, soaps and other essential items will lead to a rise in their prices.
