India guarded on Mecca Agreement on Palestine

New Delhi, Feb 20 (UNI) In a guarded reaction to the Agreement in Mecca for the formation of the National Unity Government in Palestine, India today said it had ''noted'' the efforts underway for the formation of a Palestinian Government.

It, however, said India had always supported the establishment of a sovereign, independent, viable State of Palestine, within well-defined and recognised borders, living side by side at peace with Israel through a negotiated solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict and in keeping with the relevant UN resolution.

''In this context, India has noted the efforts underway towards the formation of a Palestinian Government of National Unity, in the expectation of a resumption of dialogue on the Israel-Palestine track,'' a spokesman for the External Affairs Ministry said.

Punjab students qualify for international space competition

Patiala, Feb 20 (UNI) The Team Force from Patiala has won the Third Asian Regional Space Settlement Design Competition, winning entry into the International Space Settlement Design Competition to be held at Johnson Space Centre, Houston, USA in July this year. In the finals, the team's presentation on transporting space settlement ''Cassandras'' between Earth and Mars for 8,500 people, won it a chance, from among 55 teams, to participate in the prestigious international event. The Team Force had stood first.....

Chhattisgarh assembly pays tributes to Samjhauta blast victims

Raipur, Feb 20 (UNI) Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha today strongly condemned the ghastly killing of passengers of the Samjhauta Express, describing it as an act of cowardice. As soon as the house assembled, Speaker Prem Prakash Pandey made a reference about Sunday night's blast in Samjhauta Express near Panipat in Haryana in which 66 people were killed and many others injured. ''We strongly condemn terrorism. It's an act of cowardice to kill innocent people. It is a crime against humanity'', he said.....

Two teachers killed in road accident

Jaunpur, Feb 20 (UNI) Two teachers were killed when their motorcycle collided head-on with a jeep here today. Police said the jeep, coming to Jaunpur, hit the bike near Union Bank in Line Bazar area, killing one Baijnath Yadav (48) on the spot. Another rider Sajjan Kumar Yadav succumbed in the hospital. Both the deceased were residents of Jamalpur village and were on their way to Madiaon area. UNI.....
