Huge haul of explosives seized, three people secured

Madurai, Feb 20 (UNI) In a pre-dawn swoop, 'Q' Branch sleuths raided two hideouts in the city, nabbed three people and seized 2000 kg of aluminium powder to be smugtgled to Sri Lanka through the porous Rameswaram coast.

While two people were nabbed here, the third was held at Sikkal in nearby Ramanathapuram District.

Police sources said the 'Q' Branch team searched 'godowns at Anuppanadi and Pethaniapuram areas and effected the seizure. The operation was a followup to the recent arrest of a Lankan national, Balan, at Mandapam.

All those nabbed were being questioned, the sources added.

Planning Commission to fix Megh annual Plan tomorrow

Shillong, Mar 5 (UNI) Meghalaya Chief Minister J D Rymbai today said the state government has proposed Rs 1.360 crore as its annual plan size for 2007-08. Sea Tigers' boat destroyed

Chennai, Feb 20 (UNI) The Indian Coast Guard and the state police today destroyed the 'Sea Tigers' boat seized by the Coast Guard a few days back at mid-sea off the Tamil Nadu coast after investigators found huge quantity of explosives hidden in it. In a release here, Tamil Nadu DGP D Mukherjee said the five suspects on the boat, intercepted by Coast Guard ship 'Rama Devi' on February 13, told police their boat hid explosives that could be activated.....

Trinamool members' salaries to remain suspended

Kolkata, Mar 5 (UNI) Even as the Budget session of the West Bengal Assembly commences on March 8, the salary and allowances of the opposition Trinamool Congress members will remain under suspension for more than three months.
