Hindustan Lever to be rechristened Hindustan Unilever

Mumbai, Feb 20 (UNI) Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) behemoth Hindustan Lever Limited (HLL) today announced that they have decided to rechristen themselves as Hindustan Unilever.

The Board of Directors of the company have approved the change of name of the company. Now the proposal for the change will be taken up at the next Annual General Meeting of the shareholders, for their approval.

''The Company believes that the proposed name change provides the optimum balance between maintaining the heritage of the Company and the future benefits and synergies of global alignment with the corporate name of Unilever. Most importantly the proposed name retains 'Hindustan' as the first word in its name to reflect the Company's continued commitment to local economy, consumers and customers and employees,'' the Chairman of Hindustan Lever Limited Harish Manwani said.

It is worth recollecting here that current name of the company, Hindustan Lever Limited was adopted in 1956, consequent to the amalgamation of Hindustan Vanaspati Manufacturing Company Limited and Lever Brothers India Limited.

The Registrar of Companies has confirmed that the new name is available for registration under Section 20 of the Companies Act 1956 and subject to the resolution being passed, an application will be made to the Central Government for approval to the change of name under Section 21 of the Act, Mr Manwani disclosed.

''The Company has adopted and subscribed to a vision Statement - To earn the Love and Respect of India by making a Real Difference to every Indian - The Company remains committed to pursue this vision as it believes that this will not only be key to its business success, but would also make business sustainable and enduring.'' the Chairman added.

Gold up, Silver down

Mumbai, Feb 20 (UNI) Spot Gold today rose on improved demand while Silver fell on thin buying support in the closing session, traders at the Bombay Bullion Association said. Gold up, silver closes lower

Mumbai, Feb 20 (UNI) A Mixed trend was seen in the precious metals today with Gold up by Rs 10 per ten gm and Silver sliding by Rs 55 per kg on the Bombay Bullion Exchange. Standard Gold (99.5) and pure Gold (99.9) resumed high this morning at Rs 9,625 and Rs 9,675 per ten gm on reduced stock supply. SBI, Manipal University launch Combo Card

Mumbai, Feb 20 (UNI) State Bank of India and Manipal University have launched a Combo Card for students of the university. The card is the first-of-its-kind all-in-one product incorporating features of an ATM-cum-debit card, a student identity card, an access card, a library card and a card for payment of all kinds of fees and medicare. The card, which will be issued free of cost to the students, can also be used in food courts across Manipal, said an SBI release.....
