Haryana signs MoUs with 7 IPPs for renewable energy

Chandigarh, Feb 20 (UNI) The Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency (HAREDA) today signed MoUs with seven Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to generate 686 MW of power through 21 biomass and four wind energy based power projects at a total cost of Rs 3,300 crore.

The MoUs were signed in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan here.

Mr Hooda asked the IPPs to ensure early completion of these projects in a time bound manner. ''Energy being the upper most ingredients for growth and development, the present government has given top priority to harness all sorts of energy through launching of several projects.'' The 2005 notification on policy to encourage the private investors to set up renewable energy power projects in the state was a step towards this direction.

Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Renewable Energy Department, S C Chaudhary said the biomass based power projects would generate 246 MW of power and the wind energy based power projects would produce 440 MW power and these would start generation of power by mid - 2009.

Director, Haryana Renewable Energy Department and HAREDA, Sumita Misra signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with seven Independent Power Producers (IPPs) on behalf of HAREDA.

For setting up of biomass power projects, the MoUs were signed with five IPPs-- M/s Starwire India Ltd, New Delhi, M/s Gammon India Ltd, Mumbai, M/s Tecpro Energy Pvt Ltd, Chennai, M/s Jyoti Biomass Power Ltd, Hyderabad and M/s Turboatom-TPS Projects Ltd, New Delhi.

For wind energy based power projects, the MoUs were signed with two IPPs--M/s Suzlon Energy Ltd, Pune and M/s Enercon India Ltd, Mumbai.

Ms Misra said the power generated by these projects would be purchased by the Power Utilities on the tariff decided by the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission as per provisions in the Electricity Act, 2003.

Haryana amends tax rules for Brick Kiln Owners

Chandigarh, Feb 20 (UNI) The Haryana Cabinet today decided not to revise the lump sum (tax) rates for Brick Kiln Owners (BKOs) till September 30, 2008 in view of the hardship being faced by them. It was decided to amend the Haryana Value Added Tax Rules, 2003 in this regard. Young mechanic's ''water car'' proves fit for sea water

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 5 (UNI) Braving sea waves, Vinodh, a young mechanic who designed an indigenous ''water car,'' drove his amphibious vehicle into the open sea affirming his invention could withstand both the calm and rough waters. Vinodh, who ventured on his water car into the Karamana river last month in his first trial-run in the sea, went as far as two km into the rising waves at Vizhinjam, near here.
