Farmer couple ends lives

Hubli, Feb 20 (UNI) Unable to bear the debt burden, a farmer couple allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison in his field at Bannikop village near Shiggaon in Haveri district of Karnataka.

Police said Manjunath (32) and his wife Saraswati (26), hailing from Palikopa village of Hubli taluk, took the extreme step, yesterday.

The couple got married only last year.

Dacoits strike at farm house

Hubli, Feb 20 (UNI) An armed dacoits gang struck at a farm house near Hulukoti in Gadag district and looted gold ornaments after slashing the ear of an inmate and assaulting 12 people, last night. Police said today that the dacoits, numbering six to seven, cut an ear of a woman when she resisted the robbery bid. She had been admitted to the Gadag district hospital. The dacoits, in the age group of 16 to 18, were conversing.....
