Delhi to have statutory regulatory authority for construction:Reddy

New Delhi, Feb 19 (UNI) Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy today said Delhi will soon have a statutory regulatory authority to monitor its construction activities.

Mr Reddy was speaking at a symposium on 'Delhi: Stepping Re-construction' on the Delhi Legislative Assembly premises.

The Minister said he was prepared to increase the floor area ratio beyond 400 if it is required and if people come forward with redevelopment plans.

Underlining the need for highrise buildings in the capital, he said such structures were needed but in a modest and modern way.

Mr Reddy stated that the MPD 2021 did not regularise everything, but went by ground reality. Norms were relaxed for the poor, old areas and unauthorised colonies, he added.

He said the Delhi master plan 2001 would not only give relief but also provide new future for Delhi.

Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken, Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker Prem Singh, Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit and others spoke on the occasion.
