Dacoits strike at farm house

Hubli, Feb 20 (UNI) An armed dacoits gang struck at a farm house near Hulukoti in Gadag district and looted gold ornaments after slashing the ear of an inmate and assaulting 12 people, last night.

Police said today that the dacoits, numbering six to seven, cut an ear of a woman when she resisted the robbery bid.

She had been admitted to the Gadag district hospital.

The dacoits, in the age group of 16 to 18, were conversing in Lambani language.

Over 1,300 farmers end lives in K'taka

Bangalore, Feb 20 (UNI) As many as 1,301 farmers have committed suicide in Karnataka during the last three years due to various reasons like debt burden, crop loss and family problems, State Agriculture Minister Bandeppa Kashempur informed the Legislative Council today. Replying to questions raised by BJP's Aravinda Limbavalli and Vimala Gowda, he said that of the 1,301 farmer suicides, the families of 475 ryots have been given a cash compensation of Rs one lakh each, 47 cases were under investigation.....
