CBI inquiry ordered into Abhishek Mishra's death

Ranchi, Feb 20 (UNI) The Jharkhand High Court today ordered CBI inquiry into the death of Abhishek Mishra, whose body was found at Dassam Falls a day after he, along with his friends including Railway Minister Lalu Prasad's daughter, went for picnic there in December.

A division bench comprising Justice Muthuswamy Karpagyavinaygam and Justice Permod Kohli asked the state government to stop its investigations and hand over the case to the CBI.

Initially, the state police termed the case as ''accident'', but Abhishek's father Dr S Mishra, working with Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi, wrote a letter to the High Court in this regard.

The court took suo motu cognisance of the matter and asked the state government to submit the case diary.

Abhishek's body was found on December 9 near the falls. He went there along with his friends, including Ragini, daughter of the Railway Minister, for a picnic the previous day.

AAI asks Navy to transfer 8.77 acres for Goa Airport expansion

Panaji, Mar 5 (UNI) The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has requested the Indian Navy to transfer 8.77 acres of land to facilitate expansion of the Dabolim airport in Goa but there has not been any compliance so far. New Delhi, Feb 20 (UNI) Voicing concern over abuse suffered by many Indian women married to non-resident Indians or others settled abroad, judges, lawyers and activists have suggested a counselling or remedy system to which victims, including children, may turn. The suggestions were among many made last evening at a seminar sponsored by a law firm and attended by a panel of India's senior Judges led by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan.
