AYUSH university to be started in Belgaum

Belgaum, Karnataka, Feb 20 (UNI) The city of Belgaum will soon have an AYUSH University and the Karnataka Government has directed the district administration to identify site for the same.

District Commissioner Shalini Rajanish, in a meeting of revenue officials today, asked them to identify around 400 acres of land for the proposed university in the vicinity of the city.

The varsity would be the second in the country and first in South India. The proposed university would conduct courses and encourage research in Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy branches of medicine.

Jockey Silva Storai suspended for one year

Bangalore, Feb 20 (UNI) The Stewards of Bangalore Turf Club (BTC) today suspended jockey Ms Silva Storai for one year till February 29 next year for questionable riding of her mount on Friday last. The French jockey was pulled up for not permitting her mount 'Niccoletto' to run on its merit in the H Devereux Memorial Plate held on February 16. Asst. Commercial Tax Officer caught redhanded while accepting bribe

Bangalore, Feb 20 (UNI) An Assistant Commercial Tax Officer in Commercial Tax Office, Hassan, was caught redhanded by Karnataka Lokayukta sleuths while accepting bribe for showing official favour, Mr S G Suragimat was caught while accepting Rs 1,500 from Mr H C Shashidhar for issuing certificate to start his new business Shashi Enterprises in Hassan. Mr Suragimat was arrested immediately further investigation is in progress. UNI.....

Soz reviews AIBP schemes in suicide-prone districts

New Delhi, Feb 20 (UNI) Union Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz today reviewed the status of 65 irrigation projects under Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme in 31 identified farmers suicide-prone districts and appealed to the states to speed up work to overcome the problems faced by the farmers. Chairing a meeting of the Irrigation Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala Prof Soz told mediapersons that he had offered technical support available with his Ministry to the states and exhorted them.....
