Khanduri fears violent trend in election in Uttarakhand

Dehra Dun, Feb 12 (UNI) BJP MP and party's Uttarakhand Election Campaign Committee president Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri today expressed fears that the state assembly election may turn violent.

Maj Gen (Retd) Khanduri was alluding to the murder of a party worker at Bageshwar on Friday.

He said, ''The election in the state has always been a peaceful affair in the past, however, with political parties opting violent and unfair means might originate a new trend in the state.'' Lashing out at the Congress government for its five years of 'misrule' he said the Congress had led the state to be under debt of Rs 16,000 crore. ''With so many resources available in the state and by harnessing them in right direction the debt was avoidable for a new state,'' he maintained.

Poking fun at the manifesto released by the Congress, he said, ''It includes irrelevant assurance of a Legislative Council in the state. The Congress should have referred to the Constitution before befooling the public,'' adding that on the other hand BJP's manifesto includes no such point that could neither be nor is impossible to fulfill.

Referring to Chief Mininster ND Tiwari's decision not to contest election, he said, '' Tiwari is going, so will the Congress Government.'' UNI
