Dehra Dun, Feb 2: In all 908 candidates filed their nominations for the Uttarakhand Assembly elections slated for February 21, while 13 nominations have been filed for the Tehri Lok Sabha bypoll to be held on the same day.
According to the Chief Election Officer's Office, 381 candidates filed their nominations all over the state for Assembly elections and 7 for Tehri byelection yesterday which was the last day of filing nominations.
The ruling Congress party has fielded its candidates in all 70 constituencies. Opposition party Bharatiya Janata Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and the only regional party Uttarakhand Kranti Dal too have fielded their candidates in all the constituencies.
Communist Party of India and CPI(M) have fielded 4 and 5 candidates respectively. Many other political parties too have fielded their candidates for the election including Samajwadi Party.
Scrutiny would be held today and candidates can withdraw their names by February 5.
In the last elections, 1090 candidates had filed their nominations and after rejection and withdrawal, 927 candidates had remained in the field.
