Shilpa to judge reality cricket show, Pop Idol

London, Feb1: Shilpa Shetty's new-found international stardom is all set to extend beyond showbiz as the Bollywood actress has been approached to be a judge on the cricketing version of 'Pop Idol' along with former players like Kapil Dev, Sanjay Manjrekar and Ian Botham.

According to a report in 'The Guardian', the Bollywood star, who rose to international fame after being at the centre of a race row in reality show 'Celebrity Big brother' on Channel 4 which she went on to win, is considering the offer.

The other judges on the planned panel may also include Darren Gough, who -- apart from being an ex-Test player -- is also a reality TV star having won the show 'Strictly Come Dancing' and former spinner Phil Tuffnel.

The planned reality series is the brain-child of cricket analyst Simon Hughes, who is a part of the judges panel in the programme's Indian version.

Hughes said was discussing the show with four major broadcasters here. If the series takes off than 25,000 boys would be auditioned and trimmed to 22, who will compete for a contract with Leicestershire County Cricket Club.

The pattern will be similar to other reality shows on air and four players will be placed in the ''danger zone'' by the judges every week. Viewers will also get to make their choice but only towards the end of the series.
