Cong promises constitutional safeguard to protect Manipur

Imphal, Feb 1 (UNI) The Congress party today promised to maintain territorial integrity of Manipur as the party released its election manifesto for the polls to state 60-member house this month.

Manipur goes to polls in three phases on February 8, 14 and 23.

Congress also claimed that due to its effort the disturbed area act was withdrawn to seven Assembly segments and vowed to make efforts to improving the law and order situation so that the Act could be withdrawn from the whole state.

Union Minister and Congress Working Committee Oscar Fernandez released the manifesto in presence of Chief Minister O. Ibobi Singh, Congress president Gaikhanjgam and other party leaders.

The Congress will get bigger plan assistance from the Centre and all villages will be electrified by 2009, the manifesto said. The Right to Information Act will be enforced and constant flow of information from Government to people through media will be ensured, the party promised.

Steps will be taken for promotion of bilateral trade between India and Myanmar, the manifesto added.

US promised not to extend drone attacks in Balochistan : Zardari

Lahore, Apr.9 (ANI): Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has said that the United States has promised not to extend the drone strikes to Balochistan.In an interview with The Daily Times, Zardari said the Pakistan government has communicated its discontent over Washington's plan to carry out missile strikes against terror hideouts in Balochistan, replying to which the US had assured that it would not target the new region.Zardari hoped that Balochistan's problem would be solved by the year end......
