CM's supporters clash in Thoubal,Khangabok constituencies in Manipur

Imphal, Jan 23 (UNI) Supporters of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh in Thoubal and Khangabok constituencies were allegedly involved in clashes, sources said here today.

Police said there had been no report of any casualties.

Security would be provided to the candidates to ensure peaceful conduct of the polls, they added.

Reports of clashes had also been reported from Nambol constituency where former Union Minister, T H Chaoba was contesting.

Officials said adequate security personnel would be stationed in all the polling stations throughout the state.

The sensitive stations would be guarded by two sections of armed personnel.

Election officials further said security personnel have started coming to Manipur to conduct the polls peacefully.

Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, Jan 23 (UNI) One person was arrested after police recovered brown sugar worth Rs one crore from him here today.

Director Inspector General Ajay Kumar Singh said acting on tip off police conducted raids and recovered two packets of brown sugar from the accused Ram Kumar.

Four arrested for assaulting HRTC driver

Dharamsala, Jan 23 (UNI) Four people, including two tourists, were arrested for assaulting an Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus driver just outside the local bus station here last evening, police sources today said.

Irked over the bus driver's intransigence for not giving a pass to the following Scorpio, four people traveling in it, allegedly left bus driver, Puran Chand, injured after allegedly beating after managing to pass the bus just outside the bus stand.

One arrested for attempting to smuggle animals skin abroad

Chennai, Jan 23 (UNI) Police seized tiger, deer and fox skin worth several lakhs of rupees and allegedly meant for smuggling to Malaysia, from a lodging house in the city yesterday and arrested a man in this connection.

Acting on a tip off, a raid was conducted at the lodging house and the skins seized.

The accused was identified as Raj Kamal (31), a gypsy from Tiruvannamlai.

During the interrogation, he admitted collecting the contraband for smuggling to Malaysia.

Bar girls arrested along with customers

Pune, Jan 23 (UNI) At least 20 people, including 11 bar girls, were arrested in the early hours today under the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking act from a hotel at Wadgaon Maval, about 20 kms from here.

Superintendent of Police Viswas Nagre-Patil told UNI that following a tip-off, police conducted a raid and arrested 11 bar girls and nine customers.

The Golden Dream Hotel was closed after Maharashtra Government had revoked the licence of dance bars last year. Police said after.....
