80.88 % voters issued EPICs so far: Gopalaswami

He said the Election Commission (EC) would also look into other alternative documents for voting and would take decision after reviewing the process on February 7. br/br/ So far the voters of the capital have been issued with the least number of EPICs. ''As many as 679, 374 voters out of 929, 347 (73.10 per cent) has been issued EPICs, '' he disclosed, adding that the number of voters in Uttarakhand has increased to 604, 2629 this time against 5269, 832 electors in the last election. Sufficient numbers of Electronic Voting Machines have been arranged and stress was being given on its training, he added.br/br/ Mr Gopalaswami said to ensure free and fair poll in the state and looking into the shortage of police force, the EC would deploy additional 4, 500 police personnel and 11, 000 Home Guards from Uttar Pradesh and other states in election duties. To avoid entry of anti-social elements from other states during the polling, the police administration has been directed to hold meeting of high level officials with police of the neighbouring state and take necessary measures. ''So far 451 non-bailable warrant have been issued to the persons with criminal record, '' he said.br/br/ Mr Goplalaswami apprised that in all, 13 FIRs have been registered against violation of Model Code of Conduct. UKD releases third list of 11 candidates for Assembly poll

Dehradun, Jan 23 (UNI) Uttarakhand Kranti Dal today released its third list of 11 candidates for the February 21 Assembly election in the state.

Sukhbir Badal gets CISF security

Patiala, Jan 23 (UNI) Shiromani Akali Dal general secretary Sukhbir Singh Badal has been provided Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel for his security as he comes under the Z plus security category.

Police sources here said that the Union Home ministry has extended security cover to two Akali MPs. Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Charnajit Singh Atwal has already been given CISF cover.

Sources further said that about 30 companies of CISF will be coming to Punjab for elections duty.

Food poisoning claims 2 lives

Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, Jan 23 (UNI) Two children have died of food poisoning and more than half-a-dozen people fell ill, two of them seriously, at Dantewada district's Eramnar village about 20 km from Bijapur.

A medical team reached the village after Sarpanch Hemant Kumar alerted the administration. Five of the victims belong to a single family. After a few members of Bomdaram's family fell ill yesterday, Parvati (one) and Kishan (8) died following diarrhoea.

Officials said that contaminated food was the cause.

Lahore's Jallo Park houses Indian swamp deer

Lahore, Jan 23 (UNI) An Indian swamp deer has been added to a herd of four others at the Jallo Wildlife Park in Lahore.

The deer was caught by the Rangers at the border area near Shakargarh yesterday. It is the fifth deer to enter into Pakistan from India in three years. These deer were caught from bordering areas near Ganda Singhwala, Narowal, Kanganpur and Sharaqpur, Dawn newspaper reported.
