CPI releases list of candidates for Uttarakhand poll

Dehra Dun, Jan 20 (UNI) The Uttarakhand unit of the CPI has decided to field four candidates in the State Assembly election slated for February 21.

CPI State Secretary Samar Bhandari, while releasing the first list of candidates here today, apprised mediapersons that the party had decided to field its candidates from Nandprayag, Kedarnath, Pantnagar and Gangotri. The names of the candidates are Anand Singh Rana (Nandprayag), Ravindra Jaggi (Kedarnath) and Gopal Singh (Pantnagar). The name of the fourth candidate for Gangotri would be released on January 23, Mr Bhandari said.

CPI had, in the last Assembly election, fielded 14 candidates from Gangotri, Yamunotri, Tehri, Deoprayag, Narendranagar, Mussoorie, Rishikesh, Iqbalpur, Kedarnath, Badrinath, Nandprayag, Jaspur, Bajpur and Pantnagar-Gadarpur. However, the party had failed to win any seat. Its Gangotri candidate Kamal Ram Nautiyal was placed in third place after Congress' and Bharatiya Janata Party candidates in first and second places respectively.

It was likely that the CPI would again repeat Kamal Ram Nautiyal from Gangotri this time also.
